Well, As the 2006-2007 Trapping season is apon us, I would like to be the first to say Good luck this year and I hope everyone has a safe and bountiful Trapping season. I see that this fourm has been very quite this past summer and I hope things will start to awaken as this new season arrives. Just a few things to remember, IF this is your first time in this fourm, PLEASE READ THE RULES. and for all the veterans on this fourm, well you know what you can and can't post about... So with that said, Have a good and safe season, and We here at the Novice Trapper look forward to a exciting trapping season. So post often, show lots of pictures, and most of all have fun.

I also would like to wish all of you best of luck in upcoming season. Won't get out myself until first week of December, but that's OK as in this area that is about when coons are at their best, cat season just opens up, and most of deer/bird hunters have hung it up for season. My 5-year old will be accompanying me nearly all check days this season. Won't be a long season on account of that, but certainly hope that if weather holds up for us that it is a lot of fun for both of us. Jim

Hey, just adjusted my calendar so now will be taking week of Thanksgiving through a few days into December now. My five year old has been filling up a small coffee can with mice and we keep it in an old freezer in our garage. Need a few more yet to give the fox and coyotes a hard time at dirt holes. We caught a ton of little bluegill this summer and have those frozen for coon and mink bait, too. He is really getting into the preparations this year. Jim

speaking of possums...I caught this little one in a #11 at a dryland coon set a couple seasons back. Notice how it has one front foot and one back foot in this little #11? Not sure how he pulled that one off, but there isn't a lot of room inside the jaws for something like this, and it was a decent grab on both feet. I've caught coyotes and foxes by both front feet, but never by a front and a back. I always carry a camera with me when I trap. Hey all, we did OK that week this season I trapped with my 5 year old. He dug holes, pounded stakes, did everything but actually set the traps. All dryland sets (dirtholes, post sets, etc.). We caught 5 nice big coons, a few possums, a skunk, and a double on coyotes on 2nd to last day (sets were 30 feet apart) He is hooked!
