I thought I would take some time to help people understand what we are about here at The Novice Trapper.
In NY state we have a mandatory Trappers Education course for anyone wanting to obtain a trappers license. I am in the middle of getting certified to be an instructor for these courses, as well as NYS Hunter Ed, And Bow hunter Ed.
My sons took their trappers education course this year, and I took mine 20+ years ago. LOL. A lot has changed in 20 years, both within the course and within the sport. Both have gotten much better IMO. But one of the reasons I decided to become an instructor was because of a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Instructors for the Trappers Education course are far and few between. Secondly, I love to work with kids as I am also a Little league Manager, and coach small fry football as well. I think it is amazing to watch these young kids Learn, and get better at something. Everyone wants to make their mark in life, and I guess that working with kids is the mark I want to make. I want for some of these kids to say in 20 years that they remember something from my class. So I came up with a couple of Ideas that I am going to be instilling, One of which is this Forum. That is why I have so many boards geared towards visual teaching. Such as the Set Pic boards, and the FAQ board. And as time goes by, I will be adding a lot of information to these. But I don't want to do it alone. I believe that the key to being successful and learning is diversity. Everyone does things a little differently. With this forum, the kids from the classes can see Many different ways to do things, and hopefully become Good, Ethical Trappers that are successful, as well as get answer to questions that they may not have thought of in the class, or may not have felt comfortable asking in the class. And Please feel free if you are an instructor for trappers Education in ANY state to give the address of this board to your students. Trapping is unfortunately a Dying tradition, but if we can get the young ones into it, and help to keep them interested by helping them be successful, it is a tradition that we can save through our youth.
The On line Magazine (The Novice Trapper) is also for this very same reason. It is your chance, to be a writer and share your experiences in Long form, instead of small snippets that you share in threads.
So come on in, and Let your fingers to the Talking!!!.
