Here's a typical post set I use. When there is no snow I blend the set in...but with snow I have to rebed the trap often with new dry material and gave up trying to keep them hidden...and didn't notice much decline in catch rate so just went with it for snow conditions.
Here the "post" is the end of this thick branch. Can move the branch to location if needed. I like corners of fencerows, along edges of fields, mowed paths, old roadways, etc.
Notice that little black cylinder at the base of the branch? Its a 35mm film canister. I take a drill and 1/8" bit and drill a ton of holes through the canister to perferate it. Put a ball or two of cotton inside, and pop the cap back on. Then take a 12" length of stiff wire and force the wire through the cap and through the canister and out the bottom. Make a little knot in the wire end to keep it from pulling all the way through, then pull the wire down snug through the cap. When you load this, open the cap (may have to push up on the wire a little to allow that) and squirt in some urine or a gland lure, then put the cap back on. Shove the wire into the ground, or wrap it around the post, or whatever at the set. The canister keeps the lure weather proof inside, but the perferations act like a wick for air currents flowing through the canister. The black color also absorbs sun energy to keep it above freezing a bit. Make great lure holders for call lure overhead or near the set, too. Can attach to a tree branch overhead with a couple wraps of the wire. I use dry dirt or coverhulls at my post sets (no fresh dirt smell from either so no digging or looking for food in the trap bed is a result)
