Any of you guys fish for Walleyes. I live near a lake that has TONS of them, but I can't seem to catch any. LOL> And you need to understand. I am what I would consider to be a better than average Bass Fisherman, and this Walleye thing is KIlling me. LOL. The lake is only 26 feet deep at its deepest point, and it really does not have a lot of structure. It does have one stone point, which we hav fished a LOT, and still nothing of any size. We have been fishing with Jigs tipped with a night crawler for the Past 2 years. LOL. Just not getting it done. Any suggestions.

I like that dead stick idea, I don't think that was something we tried, I think this year we will have to do that. Thanks......

I don't fish for walleyes much. Maybe 4-5 times a year. Usually end up catching some but never do anything fancy to catch them.

I have heard this more times than I can count, guys go out fishing and kill the eyes, and it wasn't what they where mainly out to get, Scott and I will go out five times a week and not catch one!! And the worst part of it all is we where right there when the DEC was dumping them in the lake ;D THIS YEAR IS THE YEAR!!!!!!

Have most of my success when head up to South Dakota for the one trip every year. Usually limit out every day. Now the bad thing is they seem to get ate as quick as they are caught around here.

I use the daed stick and it works awsome but I have better luck using a minnow with about only a foot of line between the hook and split shot.

I don't have access to a boat, so nearly all of my walleye fishing is done from the bank. This time of year the spring spawn is firing up, and though not necessarily the most productive time it is one of the opportunties I have available to be close to many fish near the rocky dam faces and other suitable bank-related shorelines. I throw a lot of stick rapalas and other minnow-imitating lures. One lake I fish does not allow any live baitfish, so I use night crawlers or leeches on one rod, then throw lures with the other while waiting for bites. (our state allows two lines). Other lakes I fish I take minnows for that other rod and still toss lures with the second. I use floating jig heads about 1' to 2' above a sliding sinker with a stop, or, I attach a very small bobber just in front of the bait hook and this is also about 1' to 2' out beyond the slider...to keep the bait up off of the bottom a little. Any of you have tips you are willing to share with me on spawning, pre-spawn, or post-spawn walleyes? Thanks for the help... Jim

The other problem that I forgot to mention is that the reason the walleye have been stocked there in the first place. LOL. This lake has an Over abundance of Golden Shiners. The walleye were stocked to try and bring that population down. However, the DEC stated that the ratio at any given time should only be about 50-1, and this lake they are about 200-1. LOL. That is Shiner to Walleye ratios. In short, Hard to get them to hit a minnow when they have had their fill. LOL

Thats what the DEC says, but I have NEVER heard of anyone catching any. And even with 1000, someone would have bumbled into one. And they only live about 5-7 years, so I find it hard to believe that no one has hooked a Lunker yet. I honestly don't believe they are in there. Lots of REALLY big Pickerel though. LOL> I have caught Pickerel in there bordering 36".
