We use either a 4 gallon or 5-gallon bucket, square or round (we prefer square... the catfood buckets work great... our neighbors are more than willing to give some up), place your trap in the face of the bucket. Mark out where you need to cut, Make the slots smaller so they will fit when the springs are compressed. (we mark ours w/ a set trap)
Leave the safety locks on! Cut down the side notches in the bucket to the desired depth (we cut ours to about 5 inches).
We try to keep the bottom lip of the jaw touching the bottom of the bucket to help stabilize it. Postition of the bucket handle, the handle is on top of the bucket and on the bottom. It's a lot easier to carry this way.
I drill 4 holes in the back of the bucket for the wire to hold the bait in, and let water drain out. This also keeps smaller critters like mice from dragging the bait out of the bucket as well.
On the side of the bucket about 3/4 of the way back, I drill holes for my stakes. I use a 1/2" drill bit to drill the holes. ( we use 1/2" stakes, but ya can make the holes any size of your stakes).
Critters have atendency to walk on or try to tip your bucket.
Now ya have a bucket cubby. these are great coon getters!
we bait ours w/ fish chunks or some meat chunk bait. and sometimes we spray fish oil leading into the bucket.
Some of our buckets are brown, some black, and some white. they all work the same, but the white ones draw prying eyes and have a greater chance of being taken by a thief.
