Our single dirthole set if very simple but effective.
a 2-3" hole is dug at 45degree angle and about 10-15" deep. we really tear up the face of the hole with a small flower garden rake. to make it look as if a coyote had dug up a mouse or mole. Place a 5" diameter log or something similar behind the hole and spray w/ urine. We use a paste bait (of beaver or coon or muskrat) in the hole.
For coyotes, we bed the trap 5-6" back and usually 2" off center. For fox, coon, other smaller critters, we place the trap 4" back and directly centered. Then sift dirt over (we leave some grass and some small clods to make it look natural over the trap).
